This document describes the setup of a Motorola MC3090/MC3190 scanner. This article is intended for use by hardware technicians.

Pre-requisites

You will require the following files which can be downloaded from here as a zip file:

  • WindowsMobilePowerToys.msi
  • NETCFv2.wce5.armv4i.cab 
  • cerdisp2.exe - This file can be found in the following folder on your computer after installing WindowsMobilePowerToys: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys\ActiveSync_Remote_Display\devices\smartphone\wce400\armv4
  • PDAClient.CAB - PDA Client file. This file can be found the C:\Minfos01 folder on any computer running Minfos.

  

 

Install PDA Wireless Software

To enable communication between computer and scanner, software needs to be installed.  For Windows 7 and above, this software is Windows Mobile Device Centre.
To install software on the Motorola MC3090/MC3190 scanner:

1. Connect the scanner dock to a computer using a Mini USB cable.

2. Place the scanner in the dock. Eg: Motorola MC3090 Dock.
                                                 

     

3. Download the Windows Mobile Device Centre installer to your computer. It is contained in the zip file you have previously downloaded.

4. Copy this file to the computer and run it to install the program on your computer.

5. After installing and running Windows Mobile Device Centre, the following window should appear:

6. If the Device Centre reports that you are not connected, you may need to restart the scanner. The scanner should appear in the Computer/My Computer window (e.g. as below on Windows 7).


Install Windows Mobile Power Toys (Remote Viewer for PDA Screen)

Once the Windows Mobile Device Centre has been installed on your computer:

1. Run the WindowsMobilePowerToys installer on your computer.

2. Open Windows Mobile Device Centre.

3. Connect the PDA to the computer.

4. Copy the cerdisp2.exe file into the Windows folder on the PDA. This file can be found in the following folder on your computer after installing WindowsMobilePowerToys: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys\ActiveSync_Remote_Display\devices\smartphone\wce400\armv4

5. Run ActiveSync Remote Display on the computer.

Install the .NET Framework 2.0

To install the .Net framework 2.0 (including service pack 1) on a Windows CE device:

1. Copy the NETCFv2.wce5.armv4i.cab file to the following folder on the scanner: \MyDevice\Application\Application

2. From the \MyDevice\Application\Application folder on the scanner, run NETCFv2.wce5.armv4i.cab

Note: If there is no “Application” folder within \MyDevice\Application you may need to create it.

PDA Client Installation and Configuration

1. Copy the PDAClient.CAB file into the \MyDevice\Application\Application folder on the scanner. This file can be found the C:\Minfos01 folder on any computer running Minfos.

2. From the \MyDevice\Application\Application folder, run PDAClient.CAB

Note: The Application sub-folder inside \MyDevice\Application might not exist, so will need to be created.
 

Create a PDA Shortcut for the PDA Desktop

1. PDAClient.exe can be found in MyDevice\Program Files\PADClientSetup\.

2. Tap and hold on PDAClient.exe until the menu appears then tap Copy.

3. On the scanners desktop, tap and hold on a blank space till the menu appears then tap Paste Shortcut.


PDA Wireless Server & PDA Client Settings

1. Start the PDA Client, tap Options, then tap Settings.

There are two tabs on the scanner Settings window, Server and Client.

2. In the Server tab, ensure the Server Name/IP Address is the IP Address of the computer that is running PDA Wireless Server (Server6.exe).

The PDA Client is now configured.



 

Install DataWedge (Only for MC3190)

1. DataWedge.exe can be found in the My Device\Application\ folder.

2. Tap and hold on DataWedge.exe until the menu appears then tap Copy.

3. Navigate to MyDevice\Windows\StartUp\. Tap and hold on a blank space until the menu appears, then tap Paste Shortcut.

4. Run DataWedge.exe by either tapping on it or the shortcut. Alternatively, warm booting the scanner will also start it now.

5. Tap on the DataWedge icon in the system tray and the menu will appear.

6. Tap on Barcode, then Prefix/Suffix.

7. Ensure that Send ENTER key after suffix is ticked then tap OK.  
DataWedge is now configured.



Install Scanwedge (for MC3090 only)

1. ScanWedge.exe can be found in My Device\Application\

2. Tap and hold on ScanWedge.exe until the menu appears then tap Copy.

3. Navigate to MyDevice\Windows\StartUp\. Tap and hold on a blank space until the menu appears then tap Paste Shortcut.

4. Run ScanWedge.exe by either tapping on it or the shortcut. Alternatively, warm booting the scanner will also start it now.

5. Tap on the ScanWedge icon in the system tray and the menu will appear.

6. Tap on Config and then Setup.

7. Ensure that Send ENTER key after suffix is ticked then tap OK.  

ScanWedge is now configured.

  

Connect the MC3090/MC3190 scanner to wi-fi

1. Tap the Wi-Fi icon on the bottom right of the scanner screen.

2. Then tap Find WLANS.

3. Wait until the lists of available networks populates.

4. Tap and hold on the network that belongs to the pharmacy, then tap Connect.

 5. Leave the default entries for Name and SSID and tap Next.

6. Use the default settings of Infrastructure and Allow Any Country. Tap Next.

7. Select the Security Mode the Wi-Fi network is using.

8. Select the Authentication Type if necessary.

9. Tap Next.

10. Select the Encryption type.

11. Tap Next.

12. Enter the wireless password in the Passkey field then tap Next.

13. The default setting DHCP is used unless a static IP address is needed. (If a static IP must be used then after tapping next there will be another window for selecting the IP Address and other related settings.) Tap Next.

14. The default setting of Automatic is used. Tap Next.

15. The default setting of Fast Power Save is fine. Tap Next.

16. A new profile has now been created for this wireless network.

17. After 10-15 seconds, the wireless icon should turn green or yellow depending on the signal strength:

If the icon changes to an exclamation mark, the Wi-Fi settings are incorrect and will need to be reviewed.
