In Minfos Dispense you can set your preferred generic suppliers and Minfos will prompt or automatically substitute during dispensing if a non-preferred brand is selected. You can manage up to 10 preferred generic suppliers. In addition to the 10 preferred generic suppliers, there is also the ability to set recommended products. Recommended products are set on a product by product basis in Product Maintenance, refer to Flag a Product as Recommended for instructions on how to set the Recommended flag.

When set up and a product from a non-preferred supplier or a non-recommended product is selected in dispense, Minfos will prompt or automatically substitute with your preferred brand if:

  • there is a recommended product and you have set to use these as a priority over preferred generic suppliers. If not, there will be no prompt for recommended products
  • there is a generic from your 1st Preferred Generic Supplier Minfos will prompt you to substitute with this brand
  • there is no brand from the 1st Minfos will check the 2nd Preferred Generic Supplier and prompt
  • there is no brand from the 2nd Minfos will check the 3rd Preferred Generic Supplier and prompt
  • and so on up to the limit of 10

Preferred Generic Supplier Options

a. Use Recommend Products as priority over Preferred Generic Suppliers

  • When this check box is checked, Minfos will ignore the values set in the preferred generic suppliers fields and will prompt any products that are flagged as recommended in Product Maintenance. The recommended flag is set on a product by product basis, rather than across a brand or manufacturer. Refer to Flag a product as Recommended for further information
  • This checkbox can be useful in several circumstances e.g. when the pharmacies usual preferred generics are out of stock from the wholesaler, if the pharmacy has been able to do a special buy from a supplier other than the usual preferred generic supplier or if a product in dispense is short dated
  • This icon in the Drug Recall Window/Generic Listing Window indicates that the product is flagged as a Recommend product

Example Recommended Generic Drug prompt:

a. Select Yes to proceed with the substitution, you may also see the below Preferred Generic Drug prompt.

b. Select No to retain the brand selected on the Drug Recall Window.

b. Prompt if brand item equivalent

  • This is the recommended setting in this window.
  • With this checkbox selected, Minfos dispense will prompt dispensers to substitute the brand they are dispensing with the available generic according to the values set in the preferred generic suppliers fields. e.g. if the dispenser selects Amoxil 500mg, using the above example, Minfos will prompt to substitute with APO-Amoxicillin 500mg
  • This icon in the Drug Recall Window/Generic Listing Window indicates that the product is one of you Preferred Generics

Example Preferred Generic Drug prompt:

a. Select Yes to proceed with the substitution.

b. Select No to retain the brand selected on the Drug Recall Window.

c. Substitute brand item equivalent automatically without prompt

  • When selected, this option will automatically substitute the brand being dispensed, with the available generic according to the values set in the preferred generic suppliers fields.
