The process of dispensing an ePrescription is Minfos is very similar to dispensing a paper prescription. The pharmacy does not need to use any extra software to be able to dispense ePrescriptions in Minfos.

Your pharmacy owner or manager will be able to advise you if your pharmacy is ePrescription ready.

Currently, there are 3 different ways to manage eScripts in Minfos:

  • Dispense from an electronic or printed token the customer has been provided
  • Dispense from the Minfos eQueue
  • Dispense from the customer's Active Script List (ASL)

This topic will provide an overview and demonstration of each of these workflows.

Dispense an eScript from a Token

Customers may present an eScript via a printed or electronic token. This token can be scanned directly into the Dispense Form for pharmacies doing forward dispensing.

Most commonly, the pharmacy staff accepting the script will scan the customers token into the token scanner, printing a small docket which is then added to the script basket for dispensing.

Dispense from the Minfos eQueue

The Minfos eQueue is designed to help pharmacies manage both eScripts and paper scripts more effectively. Rather than printing a token and adding this to a physical script basket, Minfos pharmacies can choose to add paper and electronic scripts to an electronic basket in the Minfos eQueue.

Dispense from an Active Script List (ASL)

The Active Script List, or ASL, is a list of all active prescriptions and repeats available to be dispensed for a particular patient.

It is different from the existing eScripts token model in that a customer doesn’t need to present a physical or electronic token for each script. Instead, the patient can give consent for a pharmacy to access the script from their ASL.

In order for a pharmacy to access a patients ASL, the patient must first be registered for ASL, and the patient must give consent for the pharmacy to access their ASL.

Registration only needs to be done once, whereas consent is specific to each pharmacy and controlled by the patient. Consent may be given for 1 day only, or on an ongoing basis. A patient can register and give consent to access their ASL ongoing at Pharmacy A, but may choose to give consent for 1 day only at Pharmacy B.
